Bowl Precap, Part 1

by Big Al

The bowl season has arrived! I know most people don't give a fig about a lot of these games, but I love them. The entire idea is to put together two evenly-matched teams at the end of the season for a final hurrah where one teams gets to have a big send-off to a successful season.

Admittedly, the definition of "successful" has gotten pretty loose, but that doesn't change the fact that these teams get to go someplace for a long vacation, a lot of perks and presents, and a chance to get on television and maybe win a trophy for their school.

If letting a bunch of college kids feel good about themselves for their accomplishments is a bad thing, then I don't want to be right.

Gildan New Mexico Bowl

Temple vs. Wyoming

People complain about the fact that there is a game this early. People complain about the fact that two teams that aren't in major conferences are allowed to play in bowls. I've discovered that the happiness of others is the dead last thing on earth people like.

Anyway, Wyoming has a terrible run defense, and Temple has a great running back. I've seen this before: last year when Wyoming beat Fresno State. Wyoming wins.

Famous Idaho Potato Bowl

Ohio vs. Utah State

Utah State lost some ridiculous heartbreakers to start the season. They will not need to worry about that in this game. Utah State.

R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl

San Diego State vs. Louisiana-Lafayette

Why do they have this crappy destination for a bowl when bowls should be in a great location... like the Sugar Bowl. I've heard a lot of people complain about how horrible it is that there is a New Orleans Bowl. I'd want to go if my team were playing in it. I'm still in New Orleans.

It's games like this that ruin my bowl season. I don't know diddly about either of these teams. That's the problem with these games. That's also the reason they are so awesome; I have no idea what to expect here! I'll bet the teams playing in it don't really know what to expect, either. Anyway, San Diego State, supposing they don't have too many hurricanes in the days leading up. And my apologies to San Diego State: I don't think I've picked a pre-Christmas game right yet.

Beef 'O' Brady's Bowl

Florida International vs. Marshall

I can't remember the name of that FIU receiver I heard so much about early in the season. Supposing he's not hurt (I don't follow FIU football very much), I would imagine I will have many opportunities to reacquaint myself with him while Florida International wins this game.

San Diego Count Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl

TCU vs. Louisiana Tech

You win the MWC and you have to play on December 21? What the crap? Anyway, TCU wins. Go Big XII... er, Mountain West!

Maaco Bowl

Arizona State vs. Boise State

No, Boise State is not MWC champs. But there are worse places to be than Las Vegas; San Diego is among them. Boise State wins.

Sheraton Hawaii Bowl

Nevada vs. Southern Miss

I don't know what Southern Miss did, but they found some magic with their win over Houston. I'm assuming that voodoo will not be used against them here. Southern Miss wins.

It Was Nice to Know You

I shall miss the rest of the SEC. They were a lot of fun. Maybe, someday, we can do it again sometime. I'll look forward to it. Until then, I will cherish memories of you.

Post-Season Thoughts on 2011

A few final thoughts on what was just an absolutely lousy season. I wonder if even Alabama fans are feeling kind of weird about things right now.

BCS Title Game Precap

An attempt to make a prediction for the BCS title game. It's about time to bring a close to a very weird year.

Bowl Precap, Part 2

Games go on, and I am running late. But here we are and here we will be, and here's some more picks that I am trying to shove out the door.
