It Was Nice to Know You
by Big Al
Dear The Rest of the SEC,
It was nice getting to know you. You really are pretty cool. We had a great time with you. But, it looks like Alabama has arrived and it is time for you to go.
It was fairly obvious this would happen, but I know you thought it would last forever. And while some of us were getting a little tired and some of you had already gone, you still kept us very entertained. You were a lot of fun. But now that Alabama has come to take the rest of you away, we are going to miss you.
In the last decade-plus, you made the SEC the most competitive and wildest conference in the country. Every game was exciting and every result was impossible to predict. It was jolly and thrilling and endlessly fascinating.
But now, Alabama is back. And for most of the history of the SEC, the roll call of the conference has been "Alabama, et al". And so it seems to be becoming again. LSU was the last standing member of an entertaining decade, and now they have been knocked off in the most embarassing manner possible by the very same Alabama team that has long stood above the conference.
Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe it isn't curfew quite yet. Maybe we still have a lot of time left. But it's not looking good. Alabama is looking like they are coming for you and you can't avoid them for much longer.
I mean, we can still keep in touch. I'm sure you will be able to get some conference championships in the upcoming years. But I don't think we can bring you back into the national race, no matter how much we would like or how hard you try to sneak in.
So, maybe we can do this again sometime? That would be nice. What are you doing, say, 30 years from now?
