Sadly, my attempts to get in front of the computer and write a bowl preview were disasters, so I was not able to get this out early. But I'm getting it done. I guess that's something like a success. So let's pick it up from where we are.

Cheez-It Bowl
Oklahoma State vs. Miami

Neither team had quite the year they thought they would. Oklahoma State was doing well, then it fell apart against Texas, and got worse against Oklahoma, with the coup de grace from Iowa State. Miami was humming along, but any chance they had to have a great season evaporated when North Carolina handed the ball off. It's the Disappointment Bowl in Orlando.

This is going to be the biggest win of the year for one team. Neither one has been all that good against good teams. So, let's go with Miami just because they are closer to home.

Valero Alamo Bowl
Texas vs. Colorado

Texas has underwhelmed all year. Colorado has done okay, and probably done about as well as expected. Let's go with Texas, because Sam Ehlinger is going to kill a man to get a win if he has to.

Duke's Mayo Bowl
Wake Forest vs. Wisconsin

Wake Forest has done comparitively. Wisconsin has done comparitively lousy. Which means that Wisconsin expects a lot more from themselves. And, in a game named for mayonnaise, I like Wisconsin.

Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic
Oklahoma vs. Florida

I can't quite wrap my head around Oklahoma. I think they're very good, but they have trouble holding onto leads. Florida is good, but they find ways to lose. It's a game between two good teams that don't know how to win.

Oklahoma has shown some life on the defensive side of the ball, which is entirely novel for the Big XII. I don't think Florida takes Oklahoma's defense seriously. That will cost them. And, really, I have more confidence in Florida's ability to blow this game. Oklahoma wins.

Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl
Tulsa vs. Mississippi State

Mississippi State because I don't have much confidence in Tulsa.

Offerpad Arizona Bowl
Ball State vs. San Jose State

San Jose State because I don't have much confidence in Ball State.

Autozone Liberty Bowl
West Virginia vs. Army

Army is thrilled to be in a bowl game after a phenomenal season. West Virginia is looking forward to getting home. Army wins.

Mercari Texas Bowl
Arkansas vs. TCU

TCU, because they are not Arkansas.

Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl
Cincinnati vs. Georgia

I really want to pick Cincinnati is this game, because they have a good offense, and a phenomenal defense. But Georgia is a team that is hitting their stride. I like Cincinnati, but Georgia is the pick.

Vrbo Citrus Bowl
Auburn vs. Northwestern

Auburn is a complete mess, but Northwestern is not nearly as talented. Auburn wins.

TaxSlayer Gator Bowl
NC State vs Kentucky

Kentucky may not be Alabama, but they aren't Vanderbilt, either. Kentucky wins.

Outback Bowl
Ole Miss vs. Indiana

Ole Miss may not be Alabama, but they aren't Vanderbilt, either. But Indiana is way better than this. Indiana wins.

PlayStation Fiesta Bowl
Oregon vs. Iowa State

I have not the foggiest notion what to make of this game. Oregon was off and on this year, while Iowa State was punching above their weight all year until the Oklahoma rematch. Iowa State should be thrilled to be here, despite the season-ending loss. But Oregon is good at wrecking good stories. Oregon wins.

Capital One Orange Bowl
Texas A&M vs. North Carolina

Texas A&M thinks they deserve to be in the college football playoffs, even though Cincinnati deserves to be there a lot more. But North Carolina is a good team that can put point on the board so fast that you didn't know what happened. North Carolina wins.

College Football Playoff Semifinal at The Rose Bowl Game Presented by Capital One
Alabama vs. Notre Dame

Alabama. Next.

College Football Playoff Semifinal at the Allstate Sugar Bowl
Clemson vs. Ohio State

Clemson. Next.

College Football National Championship Game
Alabama vs. Clemson

Oh, I suppose you want more analysis of why these two teams will get here. Alabama because they are way better than Notre Dame in every phase of the game. Clemson because Ohio State has so many holes on defense that they can't make up for the fact that other teams have figured out their offense.

Alabama is a great team that can score points in bunches, and a defense that can shut down other teams. Clemson has an excellent defense, with an offense that is run like a machine. These are the two best teams in the country, and everyone knows it. But Alabama has had two games where their defense didn't show up. Clemson can take advantage of whatever Alabama is not good at. That will give Clemson's defense plenty of opportunity to find ways to get some stops on Alabama. Clemson wins the 2020 title.
