Week 1 Recap
by Big Al
Well, it wasn't an earthshaking week, but there were a few items of note.
North Carolina 15 - TCU 10
I picked TCU to win, then I thought to myself, "Yeah, but Bill Belichick has had a year to figure out being a college coach." I stuck with my pick, but it makes sense that I was wrong. We'll see how both teams do as the year goes on.
USC 42 - San Jose State 26
I'm not happy USC gave up 23 points in the fourth quarter. But they got out to a 35-3 lead in the third quarter, so it wasn't terrible. That gives the first impression that they have pretty good starters, but they are not deep. Which means #14 is probably about right for them.
Virginia 34 - NC State 8
It was not as close at the score, and the score was not close. But I also think that Beau Pribula's legs were accounting for too much of Virginia's offense. I think Virginia starts off really well, but fades late.
Florida State 34 - New Mexico State 17
Considering New Mexico State was hanging around for almost a full four quarters, I think we can say that Florida State is going to have a rough year. Add in one thing mentioned by the announcer that FSU has five new starters this year and I'm really concerned about the Seminoles. What I do want to see is whether they get better as the year goes on or they get worse.
North Dakota State 33 - Jacksonville State 7
I'd say that's a pretty good start to NDSU's FBS residency.
