Week 2 Recap
by Big Al
Not a huge weekend, but there were a few things worth noting.
UMass 37 - Rutgers 21
UMass won a game. Son of a...
Colorado 14 - Georgia Tech 13
Colorado started off the season well! Just like every other year of Deion Sanders's term as coach.
Oregon 34 - Boise State 27
During GameDay, they mentioned that Boise State is 3-1 against Oregon. Then I thought, "I may want to reconsider my pick." But, then I thought I would still pick Oregon, so nothing lost.
LSU 51 - Clemson 10
The Lane Kiffin era started off well. The Dabo Swinney era is going... um... I would rather like to see some revival in the Dabo Swinney era.
Michigan 13 - Western Michigan 12
My phone told me that Western Michigan won. "No biggie," you might think. Except that it told me that Western Michigan won 9-7. What the heck ESPN? Anyway, I was doing some volunteering that evening, so I was not able to see the game. The ending sounds so abundantly weird. I read later that, technically speaking, the call saying there was one more second was correct. But when every clock in the place (Michigan's place, I would add) says the game is over, then yeah, you're going to get a lot of pushback from a lot of people. Either way, it was a win, so take it and move on Michigan. But Western Michigan is not going to just accept that, and I don't blame them for that one bit.
James Madison 20 - Liberty 13
A big win for JMU in the face for the spot #12 in the playoffs.
Auburn 17 - Baylor 16
Both teams really needed a win here, and Auburn got it. Both teams have been struggling as of late, so both needed to get off to a good start against a decent team. We'll see how that treats the rest of their respective years.
UCLA 45 - Cal 24
Bob Chesney got off to a good start at UCLA with a conference... erm... non-conference, in-state win. Good for them!
Notre Dame 41 - Wisconsin 13
Well, that crazy underdog pick did not go well. Notre Dame is off to a good start and looking for the playoffs, and the risk of an unexpectedly good Wisconsin is no longer a risk.
Ole Miss 41 - Louisville 38
It wasn't easy, but Ole Miss got a much-needed win to get over Lane Kiffin leaving them at the altar. We'll see how the rest goes.
Washington 24 - Washington State 10
It was a win in week one against a rival. Maybe not the blowout expected, but just take the win.
SMU 27 - Florida State 24
I was taking care of stuff around the house and saw that this game was delayed due to a power loss. I was excited to see it! And then I fell asleep and missed the whole thing. Hey, it was a busy weekend! Anyway, I forgot that this is a conference game, because SMU is nowhere near the Atlantic Coast. Sure, it's closer than Cal and Stanford, but still. Anyway, when even Kirk Herbstreit couldn't remember which conference Northern Illinois was in... and his entire job revolves around keeping track of stuff like this... I feel a lot better about not being able to remember who is where.
